Pond Care 101 – Cleaning and Maintenance – Pond Vacuums (LMP Pond Academy)
Keeping your pond clean and sludge free is vital to the health and happiness of your fishy friends.
A pond vacuum is a great tool that will make your pond maintenance far easier but a lot of people don’t even know they exist, that’s why we created this video:
One of the best things that you can invest in in terms of pond maintenance, is a pond vacuum cleaner.
These things are fantastic, you simply get into the bottom of the pond, it looks like a domestic vacuum cleaner, sounds like it, acts like it, the main difference is is that when you put the head into the pond, you’re sucking up all the waste, it goes into a tank and then it, discharges out into your garden or into your drain waste.

This is Adam and he’s going to show us how to use a Matala Muck Buster Pond Vacuum.
Now you’ll see the vacuum has filled up its tank, switched itself off and now it’s emptying the waste into the garden bed.
Nowadays pond vacuum cleaners will do it automatically, some of them will suck it up, fill up the tank and then discharge it, others will have two pumps and be sucking up and discharging at the same time.
The differences on the size of the pond and how long it takes to clean, depends on what sort of machine you would need.
But a vacuum cleaner makes it a hell of a lot easier, than getting in there with a net and trying to get all the sludge out from the bottom, which you can never do, because the sludge is always that fine it passes through nets.
Now this sludge is really nutrient rich, it’s like compost for algae so you need to get it out of your pond.
And if you’ve got a lot of pond fish, a lot of fish food going into there, a lot of fish crap going onto the bottom, you need to get that out.
Otherwise, the algae is just going to keep growing and growing and growing.
So a pond vacuum is an ideal product for any size pond.
