Why Is My Pond Green? – LMP Pond Academy

Has your pond turned green? It might be envious of balanced ecosystems!

Watch the video below to find out why this has happened:

Transcript:

G’day, this is Scotty Tucker,

So your pond’s green, why?

Well you’ve got millions if not billions of single celled microscopic algae that’s growing because you’ve either got too many fish, you’re feeding them too much, or you don’t have enough filtration.

So basically, your pond’s out of balance.

What can happen is that you set up this wonderful pond, you think that everything is going great, and then all of a sudden, your water, almost overnight sometimes, turns into green pea soup and you’re wondering what the hell have I done wrong here?

Algae grows, just like any other type of plant, through temperature, nutrient and sunlight, and we can’t do much about the temperature, we can do bits and pieces with the sunlight, you’re generally not going to be watching this video if your pond’s in the shade, because you won’t have the algae because of the sunlight. But the main thing we can control when it comes to keeping algae at bay is the nutrient.

It’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s not going to harm your fish in any way, it’s just something that’s horrible that you don’t like the look of.

So there are a few things you can do that are quick and easy fixes to get rid of the algae, why don’t you watch our video on how to get rid of algae and you’ll be able to pick that up and get it into action.
